Suez projects pave way for EfW carbon capture

It said this was now ready for an application for funding from the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero.
Successful implementation of these projects would pave the way for the adoption of carbon capture solution across all Suez’s EfW sites, the company said.
“Carbon Capture is vital to decarbonisation and we have the expertise to make this a reality," said Suez’s technical development director Stuart Hayward-Higham. "We are confident in our strategy and are ideally placed to showcase what this technology can do.”
Funding is already in place for the main East Coast Cluster pipeline for Teesside (pictured), which will transport carbon captured from projects across the area to an aquifer 145km off the North Sea coast.
Suez said it had a clear strategy for the design and construction of carbon capture facilities which it had demonstrated through its speculative investment in the technology, with appointment of contractors ahead of the next round of government funding.
Fluor is supporting the preliminary engineering and design work on Suez’s energy-from-waste (EfW) facility at the Haverton Hill Industrial Estate on Teesside, and Technip Energies on its EfW at Wilton, both of which will plug directly into the pipeline.
Hayward-Higham added: “We’re hopeful that government will back these projects to maximise the potential that can be captured across Teesside and Humber.”
